  Schlaflose Sonne melanchol’scher Stern!
  Dein tränenvoller Strahl erzittert fern,
  Du offenbarst die Nacht, die dir nicht weicht –
  O wie du ganz des Glücks Erinn’rung gleichst!
   
  So glänzt auch längstvergangner Tage Licht,
  Es scheint, doch wärmt sein schwaches Leuchten nicht,
  Der Gram seht wohl des Sterns Gestalt,
  Scharf, aber fern, so klar, doch ach! wie kalt!

  02. A la lluna
   
  Sol dels insomnes, estrella melangiosa!
  Lluen en la llunyania els teus raigs plens de
                                                               llàgrimes,
  tu anuncies la nit, que no es fa enrere davant
                                                                      teu...
  Oh, com t’assembles als records de la felicitat!
   
  Talment resplendeix la llum de dies passats fa
                                                        molt de temps,
  brilla, però el seu feble resplendor no
                                                                   escalfa,
  l’aflicció veu molt bé la faç de l’estrella,
  nítida, però llunyana, serena, però ai! molt
                                                                     freda!

  Sun of the sleepless! melancholy start!
  Whose tearfull beam glows tremulously far,
  That show’st the darkness thou cannst not dispel,
  How like art thou to joy remember’d well!
   
  So gleams the past, the light of other days,
  Which shines, bur warms not with its powerless rays;
  A night-beam Sorrow watcheth to behold,
  Distinct, but distant –clear – but, oh how cold!
